Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
